DC DESIGN WEEK

AIGA’s DC Design Week is an annual festival of events focused on bringing DC’s creative community together. I led and executed art direction and design to create the visual identity for 2020.




Our team set out to break away from the expectation that DC is boring and buttoned up, and instead expose the thriving (yet niche) creative community that lives in the underbelly. We applied conceptual thinking to fundamental design elements to reflect this idea — such as breaking a stark black and white palette with a bold, bright green. We also created a balanced and contrasting relationship between typefaces, and employed morphing 3D elements that would unexpectedly break planes and create interesting and reflections against type. Lastly, we sourced black and white archival photography from the Library of Congress to connect our identity to DC and its rich cultural history.
