This product was an outcome of a 3 day workshop by Rebecca Reubens from Rhizome studio, Ahmedabad, to explore the properties of bamboo. The aim was to design a product using any one property or element.
The cell like structure seen on splitting bamboo inspired us to take this as the main element. Since these cross-sections are supported only at nodes, they are not structurally very strong. Hence, we used them for their aesthetic appeal and used bamboo boards for the shelves. The final structure is quite strong and can withstand upto 15 kgs of weight.
