For a project that was provided to us during an undergraduate mixed media course, the object was to create anything two-dimensional of our choosing. I decided to create a sunflower that had both three-dimensional and two-dimensional aspects included in the piece. For the two-dimensional parts, I glued strips of magazine print, newspaper print and colorful ribbon to a burlap canvas.  The blue and green colored elements resembled the grass and sky. I made the sunflower petals using sheets of painted newspaper and tissue paper in a variety of yellow and gold shades.  Some of the petals were glued in a way to make them appear to be growing out of the canvas giving it a more three-dimensional appearance.  I stippled tiny dots in the center of the sunflower as interpretation of sunflower seeds in the real plant. I proudly display this piece in my home and many people have commented on its uniqueness.
