Home Away From Home

Location: Piedras Negras-Eagle Pass International Bridge
Competition Entry for: No Man's Land

This project, designed to accommodate 1,500 refugees on the Mexico-USA border, is centered on a focal point.
The oval-shaped structure forces the bridge to go around it, which brings the attention of anyone who crosses the bridge. The structure is highlighted in order to draw attention to the underlying issue and to address the issues in the refugees’ home countries to make it safer for those who cannot flee to safety.

Values of Latin culture such as community and family will be highlighted in the common areas of this refugee respite centre.
