Aterradores, devastadores, asfixiantes, intimidantes, controladores y, sobretodo, invisibles. Los trastornos mentales son batallas internas y guerras ocultas que no solo habitan, sino también consumen a sus huéspedes humanos. Aunque debilitadores, la complejidad de su entendimiento yace en la imposibilidad para tratarlos por medio de síntomas: no hay en el mundo dos personas que padezcan de alguno de estos trastornos de la misma forma. Como humanos, somos propensos a ser atacados, desprevenidamente, por cualquiera de ellos, y es esta incertidumbre la que nos lleva a negarlos y estigmatizarlos, a abandonar a quien los padece, asegurando que, si en verdad lo quisieran, podrían deshacerse de ellos con facilidad.
Esta serie de ilustraciones es una interpretación individual de la tormenta al interior de sus huéspedes humanos, que enaltece la crítica a su invisibilización por la forma en que la sociedad los aborda como si de barcos en botellas se tratase: con pinzas.
Terrifying, devastating, asfixiating, intimidating, and, most of all, invisible. Mental disorders are concealed inner wars that, like parasites, consume their human host. Although devastating, the real difficulty in their understanding lies in their making it impossible to simply treat the symptoms, because no two individuals experience them in the same way. We, as human beings, live in constant fear of being hijacked by our own minds and attacked by any of these disorders. Thus, we repeatedly ignore them and completely deny their existence, adding to their stigmatization and that of those afflicted, reassuring ourselves that, if they wanted, they could easily get rid of them.
This series of illustrations is an individual interpretation of the storm taking place inside their human hosts, condemning its being made invisible by society in highliting the way the subject seems to be treated, as though it were a ship in a bottle: gently and with tweezers.
