With only half an hour left for the world to end, Pintoo only wants one thing for his last wish - a sweet, hot, melt-in-your-mouth Karejwa. Karejwa was originally written and published in children magazine ‘Chakmak’ in 2015 and now it has been adapted as a webcomic.

Some initial character explorations of the main characters of karejwa from early 2019.
In 2019, Sumit Kumar and I went on a research trip to Banaras for Karejwa. We sketched and took a lot of reference photos on location. Without the magical flavour of real spaces and people, it would have been impossible to bring the complex city of Banaras to life.

For me, One of the most striking things about Karejwa - the original story written by Varun - was how he had described the unique mithai that is made in banaras and banaras alone. It is almost like it's a love letter to the mithai of banaras and the city itself. During pre-production, we realized that the manner in which all these sweets are illustrated is essential to driving Pintoo's motivation to eat a Karejwa and to also make our audience feel the temptation that Pintoo is experiencing.
