Designs for a Cooler Planet

SADI (Samsung Art & Design Institute) holds a global trip every year to inspire students. In 2019, a five-member team named F.I.V.E. took the opportunity to explore.

F.I.V.E. had doubts about what people think about sustainability or sustainable design. "Can we say, 'Sustainable Design' with all the green and green stuff on it?" We thought that the word 'sustainability' looks like unworkable, imaginary idea, unlike everyone's talk.

So, we've been looking for designers from around the world who are working for a sustainable future. We planned a design trip between Helsinki and Berlin. And we borrowed the title of the Aalto University exhibition(that planned to visit) <Designs for a Cooler Planet>, and we put it on our travel theme.
After a 10-day trip from September 10 to 19, we defined 'sustainable design' in three major categories. Our dream of sustainable design is to design for the Earth, for people, for better experiences. It's not the way we sacrifice one for the environment or ourself, but the way we move towards a future where everyone coexist and progresses. This is 'Sustainable Design' that we dream of.
