인류는 환경에 여러 종류의 영향을 끼치고 있습니다. 그것이 긍정적인 영향일 때도 있지만, 대체로 반대의 경우가 많습니다. 예컨대 현대의 인간 문명은 분명히 지구를 뜨겁게 하는 데 일조하고 있습니다. 누구나 한번쯤 북극의 빙하가 무너져 내리는, 아주 구체적인 이미지를 본 적이 있을 겁니다. 하지만 극점과 멀리 떨어진 도심에 사는 사람들에겐 그 메시지가 실감나지 않습니다. 빙하의 녹은 물이 우리의 발에 닿지 않는 것은 아니기 때문입니다.
Human beings are making a lot of changes in the environment, usually in a bad sense. We are definitely heating up the Earth. I'm sure everyone has seen a very specific image of the Arctic glaciers collapsing. But it can’t move our mind at all. The melted water of the glacier doesn't reach our feet.

저는 ‘소리 없이 사라지고 있는 소중한 것’에 대한 메시지를 전달할 방법을 찾고 있었습니다. 제가 택한 수단은 책입니다. 이 책에는 논리적인 설득이나 고발적인 사진이 들어있지 않습니다. 다만 북극의 빙하 면적이 줄어들고 있다는 것과, 어디선가 물이 새어나오고 있다는 암시가 드러날 뿐입니다.
I was looking for a way to deliver a message about something that's disappearing without any sound. This book, <ARCTIC: The Future We’ll Standing On>, doesn't contain logical persuasion or accusatory photos. There are just some maps of shrinking Arctic glaciers, and hints of water leaking from somewhere.
