Illustrated guidebook by Transnistria / 2019

This student project was dedicated to creation of bilingual guidebook by Transnistria — a tiny post-soviet unrecognised country situated between Moldova and Ukraine along the Dniester river, self-established on September, 1990. The country has its' own government, constitution, passports and monetary system.
Nowadays there are no books focused on local places of interest and tourism in Transnistria.
Format: 20 x 27 cm
Vol.: 52 pages
Binding: open spine
Paper: Laid 120 gr, Conqueror 250 gr
Typeface: PT Sans, PT Serif
Technique: gouache and pencil + photo
Languages: Russian, English
The aim of enter part was a country introduction and representation. The book starts with brief statistic information connected with important numbers, some cliché stuffs and map.
The main part of the book contents 15 places to see in Transnistria.
The biggest question for me was: is it correct just to paint the place or your impression of it? Cause the customer will perceive it just with your vision and it can restrict him and disappoint.
For depicting I've decided to insert the photo layer as well; hand drawing became a metaphor of personal impression and photo part — a representation of fact and reality.  Modular rule for photos was made: each of them is 3x3 cm, one per each item. It's created some new way of looking at illustration and solved the problem of low-resolution pics at the same time.
Also the square module was used for scale of districts' size.
An extra-part of the book is a chapter about soviet visual heritage of Transnistria. Images of unique mosaics, bus stations and road stellas gathered in awesome archive contributed by Visual Anthropology of Moldova became a great supplement for curious traveller.
On the back cover the logics was inverted — photo isn't restricted by small square anymore, cause in the end of reading and travelling with the book tourists will have their real own image of Transnistria.
Thank you!
