systematic progression
This presentation is a compilation of three progressive steps: 1) The subtraction of a rectangular prism from an existing system, 2) the use of the system from the first step to create a space around a void, and 3) learning from the evolution of the first two steps to create an exhibition space overlooking the ocean. The diagrams and drawings illustrate the design of this exhibition space produced as a result of systematic progression.
Phase 1 : A rectangular prism subtracted from given system. Model is made of basswood, 7"x15"
Phase 2 : Inspiration from first model taken to create second model which forms around a center void. Model is of basswood, 6"x6". A base was designed and built following the basswood model.
Phase 3 : Final phase of project. An exhibition space overseeing a cliff was designed using similar systems used from the second model. The model sits atop a base built from foamcore, overlaid with chip board, then spray painted. The basswood model, 11"x16", is removable. Retaining walls were built into the landform to mimic the design of the structure.
