Nao Victoria, a ship built to make history

Nao Victoria
Un navío construido para dar la primera vuelta al mundo.
A ship meant to sail around the globe for the first time in history.
Some preliminary drawings. A rough on the search for the wood to build a ship (img. 01), a basic internal structure of a ship to try to understand its shapes (img.02) and a closer look at what it could be the exploded view of the ship I was trying to depict (img.03).
The final work resulted on a five page report where from front cover (img. 01), a double spread (02), a full single page text (04) and a last page the ship, it´s sailors's and it´s construction was detailed described with infographics.
Two main detailed drawings. The first one (left) is a detailed sketch working from photos with no clue of what the inside distribution was like. The other one on the right is the final drawing with all the information I gathered from Ignacio Fdez. Vial from Nao Victoria´s Foundation. After I got my hands on the blueprints with the correct proportions I did modelled a 3D of the main structure to be able to trace it by pencil.
In the main illustration my main concern was to depict the size of the ship and the little room the sailors had on board. I had a lot of fun drawing the sailor in different chores as to describe the busy day work they had while sailing.
Last page of the report was dedicated to describe different aspects like how they sailed back in 1519, how they used barrels to measure capacity load, how the ship's hull was continuously check and fixed and most important of all how they choose the wood that was meant to became such ships.
Five centuries after this ship sailed around the globe there were no blueprints or technical drawings stored or archived of it. During three years Ignacio Fernández Vial, a naval designer, did an arduous research work on the main history archives in Spain. He gathered all the information needed to build a live size replica that sails around the globe to promote such a historical event from back in 1519.
With this information I was able to draw the ship.
