Someone once told me I should draw more traditional Native American imagery–like wolves or horses–so I'd be able to sell more of my art work.
It left a bad taste in my mouth for obvious reasons.
That being said, while I like the romanticism surrounding horses in traditional depictions, I'm reminded that they were something brought by colonizers. They improved efficiency and some tribes became known as natural riders, but they were a herald of drastic change to come to the Native American way of life. With this piece, I wanted to capture the impending dread of a creature that is both alien and alluring.
