This series was inspired by a scene I'd witnessed in 2015 on my trip to Tokyo. A man in a suit, a salaryman as they would call it in Japan, sweating profusely and having the time of his life at a DDR machine at an arcade.

Lost in his own world, this made me reflect of the appearances we are expected to keep up in front of others back home, leading us to question our own sense of identity. When does anyone ever actually let their guard down?

Blonde (2016) by Frank Ocean is one of my favourite albums and I largely draw inspiration from this. He explores the concept of duality through his album, from summer/fall, day/nights, teen/adulthood.

This series explores the duality of work/after work, differentiated by the perfect split of the parallel escalator images. It was fun to put together my love of music/photography and trying out something I'd never done before.
