Rep. Keith Ellison joins striking SEIU workers at the Christian Care Home in Ferguson, MO
About 100 workers from the Christian Care Home in Ferguson, MO have been out on strike since Dec. 1, 2017, after negotiations started in July broke down. Workers and allies have been picketing outside Christian Care every day, despite the challenging weather this winter.
Cooks and health care aides want a $1 per hour raise. The union says Christian Care Home has offered a nickel.
The striking workers’ median wage is $9.65 an hour, and the union is seeking guaranteed raises throughout the life of the agreement. The median pay for nursing assistants and orderlies in 2016, the most recent data available, was $12.78 an hour, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
