Digitisation of Blaschka models - 2017

[ATTENTION! This project is still underway, new content will be added as produced]

As part of the Industry module in 3rd year, I went on work placement for 2 months.
I, along with two other students worked under Dr Emmanuel Reynaud and Colin Keogh in UCD. Myself and fellow student, Lauren Catterson, digitally created the life cycle of the common moon jelly, the Aurelia Aurita. These models were based on Blaschka glass models, with the intention of replacing broken models with 3D printed ones, but also altering the models to make them biologically correct.

I created the low-poly base models using 3ds Max and then Lauren refined them in Mudbox and produced the textured renders. I then took the refined models and started rigging them for animation.

Our models have been 3D printed in plastic and in resin, there is currently an AR app underway, and there is an exhibition in the Natural History Museum being planned.
