Russell Brown Challenge

Russell Brown Before & After Project
The objective of this assignment was to apply the skills learned throughout the semester to a Photoshop challenge set forth by the subject of the image, Russell Brown. A reference photo was chosen as his "costume", and students were tasked with properly and skillfully dressing up Brown as the subject of the costume image.
The original image of Brown was provided by the instructor, and the costume image was acquired fairly for educational use.
Before images
Behind the Scenes
Step 1: The costume image (King Uther from the show Merlin) was brought into Photoshop and cropped to fit the appropriate canvas size.

Step 2: The Russell Brown image was brought into the same file, and the face was isolated using the lasso and quick selection tools.

Step 3: Hue/saturation and color balance adjustment layers were used on Brown's face to match Uther's warm skin tone.

Step 4: Using the clone stamp tool, Uther's scar, eye color, and side hair was replicated on Brown's face.

Step 5: The pen tool was used to create a shadow shape on the side of Brown's face and it was converted to a smart object. After switching to the face layer, a curves adjustment layer was added and feathered in the area defined by a selection of the shadow shape.
Step 6: Step 5 was repeated to replicate the various shadows around the forehead, eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, and jawline. (For these steps, the lasso tool was used to create the shadow shape to bypass the pen tool and smart object steps)

Step 7: The above steps were also used in conjunction with hue/saturation adjustment layers to lighten areas on the chin, cheek and ear.
