SEIU Members Say: "It's Time to Focus on Patient Care!"
In 2023, SEIU 49 members participated in the largest healthcare strike in American history. 75,000 Kaiser healthcare workers across the US stepped out and spoke up against the abysmal conditions in their hospitals. Squeezed by lack of staff, unable to schedule patients until months later, underpaid and often working multiple jobs just to make ends meet, workers had had enough. After months of negotiations with Kaiser leadership and attempting to direct their attention toward solutions that would fix the staffing crisis facing hospitals everywhere, we voted to strike and bring attention to how Kaiser was cutting corners and putting profits above patients.
After only 3 days on the picket line, Kaiser returned to the table. They listen to our demands to Respect, Staff, and Pay Us so we could negotiate a fair contract and get back to our jobs: Taking care of our patients!
