The Brand
Mr Bongo is record label specialising in vinyl reissues of Latin American and African music. Founded in 1989 as a small record shop underneath Daddy Kool’s Reggae Store on London’s famous Berwick Street, the label has since settled in Brighton where it continues in a rich vein of form, with an incredible recording roster featuring heavyweights such as Ebo Taylor, Jorge Ben, Arthur Verocai, Marcos Valle, Terry Callier and Incredible Bongo Band.
The Project
Following the success of the Mr Bongo Zine Vol. 1, I was approached to produce the follow-up publication. Spanning 32 pages and printed on 55gsm newsprint, Vol. 2 featured interviews with Asha Puthli, Ana Frango Electrico and a record diggers guide to Rio. I created all spreads and original artwork from scratch and provided end-to-end graphic design and print expertise. Vol. 2 was launched on 15/09/23 and was included as a free accompaniment to online LP orders.
