Coppelia: An Event Poster Illustration

Centre Ballet, a local ballet studio was looking for a poster design of their upcoming ballet production, Coppelia. As the project developed, it bled into marketing cards and tickets. A summary of the project is below.
I began with a lot of research and watching versions of this ballet then started sketching thumbnail ideas. I knew this poster could feel crowded and possibly disjointed with all the characters they requested as a part of the illustration, so I began with a very limited color palette.

I really wanted to use a playful lettering to express the comedic nature of the ballet but found the ribbon lettering to be more dynamic and visually cohesive with the rest of the illustration. The ballet studio agreed that they loved the ribbon lettering.

Once I had a final sketch approved, they realized it would work great as a marketing card, so I went with a more simplified illustration drawn from the poster to create the card.
With the final approval on the poster and cards and the printer working on those, the studio decided they also wanted a ticket that included the illustrations. Each of the tickets had the same front but the back varied with a different character from the ballet.
