They Will Come

"They will come if we wait.  If we don't move and are quiet."
People from around the world were drawn to the shore, most not understanding why.
The children felt it the most.
They formed small groups and huddled together in tense silence.
No one knew what it was
or where it had come from,
but they all felt its power
and the danger it could pose.
They knew it would come from the water.
Or maybe from the sky,
the clouds,
or the fog.
They waited.
And waited...
And strained to see or hear anything new...

The adults felt fear.
Old people were skeptical, but they still came and waited.
Not fear but resignation.
They were still waiting at dawn,..
They had no idea how long they would have to wait.
