Perceiving Red
COVID Pavilion System of Interval

By: YAU Pui Kwan, Emily | Tutor: Gerhard Bruyns
Considering the huge globally effect of COVID, this project hypothetically rethinks what happens to the city and it’s in-between spaces. For example, the transition areas of bridges, the waiting areas in malls and circulation between footbridges all presents an unique challenge for social distances in queuing and eating; disinfectant and other practicalities. This project deals with six specific scenarios that try and address the COVID pandemic in an urban setting.

Using the ‘1.5 meter’ as the definitive social distance measure, all design or spatial propositions take precedent from a 1.5 meter grid systems. Apart from designing topological pavilions, the grid element also is scaled up to become a fully integrated urban system. This project further shows how the six various scenarios are materialized; whether part of an interior, exterior and other in-between settings
