Cohort

Definition: a group of people with a shared characteristic.

Consumers are often limited by the confines of visual binaries. My concept aims to establish a space where individuals can trust their intuition, playing on the notion of self-envisagement. This concept store goes beyond the confines of androgyny and challenges the inherent assumptions still present in gendered clothing in the 21st century. The space is devoid of typical retail trappings; garments are presented descriptively and sold in unbranded bags, allowing customers to imagine what they are purchasing.

Problem Statement

Develop a retail space that is multifaceted and gender-neutral. This space should foster a sense of community and transcend exclusivity. While questioning binary gender norms, the concept should still maintain enough definition to establish a visual language consistent with its ethos.

Rationale

Establish a space that encourages expression and self-envisagement, moving beyond visual binaries. Utilize ambiguous shapes and colours to challenge the concept of androgyny and interrogate binary notions of gender.
